Single Vision Lenses

These lenses are our most basic option and can be glazed as everyday lenses, reading lenses or as an intermediate prescription. They are the lowest index available, so it’s only recommended that this index is chosen for prescriptions with sphere powers up to +/- 3.00. They are a “no frills” lens offering no added features such as Scratch Resistance or Anti-Glare but make an ok lens choice when used as a backup or spare to your main pair. This lens is made from a type of optical plastic called CR39 making it fine for Full rim and Semi rim frame types but not suitable for Rimless frames which require a minimum of a 1.6 index lens.

This lens type is the most basic option we offer apart from that it has a Scratch Resistant coating applied which will prevent the lens surface from becoming scratched too easily. The lens material itself is still the most basic type but the Ultra-Tough Scratch Resistant coating will prolong the life of your lenses. This lens type can be glazed with your everyday prescription, reading prescription or for intermediate use. They can serve as an ok back up or spare to your main pair of glasses if your sphere lens powers are no higher than +/- 3.00. The Ultra-Tough coating will be especially useful If you are prone to scratching your lenses easily.  Our standard 1.5 index lens is made from a type of optical plastic called CR39 making it fine for Full rim and Semi-rim frame types but unsuitable for Rimless frames which require a minimum of a 1.6 index lens.

Although the 1.5 index and CR39 material still makes this a thicker option than a higher index lens the Enhanced Anti-Glare coatings will give you very good results if your lens prescription is lower than +/-3.00 sphere powers. As with our other standard 1.5 index lenses Enhanced Anti-Glare is suitable when glazed as an everyday, reading or intermediate glasses option. It has all the benefits of the Anti-Glare lens but with the added special features listed below. We can also supply Blue-Light protection lenses, it’s an upgrade coating called “Blue-Light Protect” and we can apply it to most of our lens Anti-Glare lens options as an additional treatment. Blue/Violet light is produced naturally by the sun but also generated by computer monitors, smartphone screens and other digital devices. Even though it does have some beneficial effects, overexposure and too much blue/violet light at night especially can be harmful and lead to vision issues, eye strain and sleeping problems. Our Blue-Light Protect range of lenses have a multi-layer design that reduces glare and reflects blue/violet light away from the lens which helps to relieve long-term eye strain caused by modern day overuse of electronic devices. Blue-Light Protect is an additional treatment and can be added to Anti-Glare, Enhanced Anti-Glare and ULTIMA Anti-Glare lenses. Mirrored lenses are ideal for anyone who is sensitive to bright light. Note that this layer of protection is applied to the front of a lens to reflect direct light - it differs from Anti-Reflection coatings which are applied to the back of a lens.

Overall, mirror lenses are a fantastic combination of function and fashion. Only wear them indoors if you WANT people to notice you!

The Sun-X is our budget “Change in the Sun” lens, it does not perform as well as the leading brand Transitions Signature but will do an adequate job if you are on a very tight budget. The main difference in performance between it and the leading and slightly more expensive brand is the speed in which it darkens in the sun and the length of time it takes to go back to clear when indoors. When you compare the two side by side the difference is noticeable so we have made the price for Transitions Signature very competitive so that for not a lot more money you can have a far superior Transition lens.
The Sun-X lens is available in Brown & Grey and is only manufactured in standard 1.5 index which means we can only recommend it for sphere powers of up to +/- 3.00 and not beyond. Being available in only 1.5 index means that this lens type is unsuitable for Rimless frames but fine for Full rim and Semi-rim frame types.
This lens comes as standard with a Hard Coating layer which makes the lens less easy to scratch than without.
