What Are Transitions® Lenses?
Transitions® lenses are a type of photochromic lens that automatically change tints in light and dark environments depending on the UV light, changing from clear to dark tint when going from indoors to outdoors and returning to clear when you’re back indoors. What are Transitions® lenses?
Transitions® lenses are the #1 eyecare professional-recommended photochromic lenses in the world. Transitions® lenses come with patented, photochromic dyes which allow the lenses to become darker at a far quicker rate when they are exposed to ultraviolet rays. These lenses will become darker depending on the intensity of the UV rays that they lenses are exposed to. Are prescription sunglasses different to photochromic lenses?
Sunglasses lenses are manufactured with a set level of tint, no matter what environment you’re in they’ll always remain the same shade. Unlike traditional sunglasses, photochromic sunglasses lenses start as clear lenses and then adapt accordingly to the level of UV light that the person is exposed to which creates a pair of transition sunglasses. Photochromic lenses are able to effortlessly adapt their level of tint to accommodate all light conditions. Transitions lenses are the perfect clear lens replacement for varied environments and practicality. Are transitions® lenses anti-reflective, anti-scratch and anti-fog compatible?
Yes. Transitions® lenses are compatible with anti-scratch coatings. These transitions lenses are even better at reducing distracting and discomforting glare both indoors and out when they’re paired with our anti-glare and anti-reflective coating.
Why is it important to protect my eyes from UV light?
Sunlight has two types of harmful rays; these are UVA and UVB rays. Excessive UV exposure becomes a risk factor for your eyes as well as your skin. This exposure can contribute to a number of serious diseases such as cataracts – making ongoing protection from UVA and UVB rays a must. Find out more about blue light lenses.
Can you get Transitions® lenses as clear as an ordinary clear lens indoors?
Transitions® photochromic lenses are completely clear indoors and transition to a dark tint when they’re exposed to light outdoors, turning them into a pair of transition sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV light.
Can you put Transitions® lenses In any kind of frame?
Yes, Transitions lenses are available to be fitted into any glasses frame.
Do Transitions® lenses only work outdoors?
Transitions® are adaptive/photochromic lens that transitions to a darker shade when they’re exposed to UV light. As UV from sunlight is typically not present indoors, the lenses will remain clear. Some transition lenses will activate and transition when they’re exposed to both UV light and visible light (such as the Transitions XTRActive® lenses), meaning they will activate indoors and behind car windscreens.
Do Transitions® lenses block UV rays?
Yes, all Transitions® lenses block 100% of UVA and UVB rays as well as provide protection against sources of harmful blue light. Transitions® Signature® GEN 8™ lenses block a minimum of 20% of harmful blue light rays when they’re indoors and over 87% of harmful blue light rays when they’re outdoors.
