How we make your lenses

All our lenses are cut, glazed and fitted in the UK at our Laboratory. We have fully qualified, expert Optical Glazing Technicians who can boast of over 200 combined years of experience and will provide best in class service. All our technicians learned their trade working in Optical Laboratories supplying High Street Opticians over the last 30-40 years. You may have already worn a pair of glasses glazed by one of us without knowing it!

As well as stocking our own in-house brand of lenses – ULTIMA – which we can glaze and dispatch the same day, we also source lenses from leading manufacturers such as Essilor, Hoya, Nikon and Carl Zeiss. These suppliers are also used by the optical chains so you can be assured of equal quality to the high street. The only difference is the considerable savings you will make on the cost of your glasses every time you use Lensology.

All we need to make your glasses is your frame, prescription and Pupil Distance measurement. Your pupil measurement can be taken from your old frame if they have lenses in them. If it is a brand new frame then there are easy ways for us to work out your Pupil Distance which is explained in our FAQ’s. As with all aspects of our service, if there is anything your unsure about just contact us and we will be more than glad to help.

Single Vision Clear

Our single vision lenses come in three types –

Distance Correcting Lenses (also referred to as Everyday Lenses).  Used by people who need help focusing on far away objects.  If you use glasses for driving or watch TV, they probably have Distance Correcting Lenses.

Near Vision Lenses.  Used in reading glasses by people who need help focusing on nearby objects.

Intermediate Lenses.  Used by people who spend a lot of time at a computer screen or similar activities at roughly arm’s length.

All our lenses are cut, glazed and fitted in the UK at our Laboratory!

Single Vision Sunglasses

Here at Lensology we are Tinting experts and can boast of an unbeatable service.  Most tinting requests are to match an existing colour in the frame, and we can do this easily and quickly.  We can also prepare any colour and density of tint that you can imagine.  We will email you a colour chart and help you pick your desired colour and density.

Our Tinting department has amazed many customers over the years with their skill and ability to provide both Solid and Graduated tints, not only in Sunglasses, but also in standard glasses when a tint is required for aesthetic or practical reasons.

All tints provided offer full ultraviolet protection.

Single Vision Polarised Sunglasses

Polarised lenses are a significant step up from Tinted sunglasses.  They are excellent at reducing blinding glare by blocking horizontal polarised light – standard tinted lenses cannot do this.  They also enhance visual comfort and acuity in addition to providing improved colour contrast.  You will notice improved comfort and clarity when driving or pursuing your favourite hobbies or sports in bright, sunny conditions.

Polarised lenses can be Solid or Graduated and there is a choice of three colours – Grey, Brown or Green/Grey at a density level of 85%.  Our technicians are happy to discuss which option is best for you if you are unsure.

Main Benefits

  • Increased driving safety due to the elimination of glare on wet or icy roads.
  • Reduced reflections from flat surfaces such as water, snow or ice make polarised lenses a premium choice for all water and winter sports.
  • Images are sharper and clearer due to increased visual comfort.

Single Vision Transitions

Transitions Signature are light intelligent lenses providing optimal style and comfort by automatically adapting to changing light conditions.  Transitions Signature is the No.1 photochromatic brand across the world, and this market-leading version is available in three iconic colours – Brown, Grey and Graphite Green.

Main Benefits

  • Protection from UVA and UVB rays both indoors AND outdoors.
  • Light adjustment –  clear indoors and tinted when out in the sun.
  • Enhanced colour perception for optimal visual performance.
  • Extra fast transition from dark outdoors to clear inside.

Varifocal Lenses

Varifocals are designed to give you consistent and continuous clarity of focus across all distances with one single lens.  They can be described as having three portions of the lens.  The top of the lens is used for seeing things at a distance, the middle for intermediate viewing, and reading/close work at the bottom.

All varifocals have a certain amount of unavoidable peripheral distortion or soft focus towards the outside of the lens. This distortion can be mitigated and minimised by opting for a higher quality, more modern design of lens.

We can supply three standards of our own brand Varifocal

Good –  Digital

Better – Pro-Series

Best –   Omni-Vision HD

Digital “Good”

The entry level Digital lens offers a Good varifocal experience.  This option would work well as a back-up or spare pair of varifocals, or if you have tight budget.  Its Freeform design makes it comparable in quality to the mid-range varifocals available on the High Street, but offers less distortion and a more competitive price.

To further reduce distortion and experience greater clarity and comfort, consider our Omni-Vision HD.

Main Benefits

  • Entry level varifocal
  • Freeform Design
  • Decent clear vision across all three zones
  • 30 day money back guarantee

Pro-Series “Better”

Our Pro-Series lens offers a Better varifocal experience and compares very favourably to what our competitors dispense as their “higher quality” Varifocals. The only way it can bettered is by stepping up to our Best Varifocal the Omni-Vision HD.

Main Benefits

  • Our mid-range Varifocal
  • Freeform Design
  • Comparable with higher-end equivalents
  • Excellent clear vision across all three zones
  • Even less distortion than the Digital “Good” Varifocal
  • Very good all-purpose varifocal and easily adapted to
  • 30 day money back guarantee

Omni-Vision HD “Best”

We are very proud to introduce our most popular and Best Varifocal the Omni-Vision HD.

This lens represents the very best varifocal experience available for those that want the highest quality without having to break the bank.

All Varifocals have a certain amount of peripheral distortion or soft focus toward the outside of the lens. However, with the Omni-Vision HD this distortion has been pushed right out to the very edges of the lens allowing you clear and virtually uninterrupted focus through all the areas of vision. Our customer feedback tells us that this is the most natural and comfortable Varifocal that we have ever designed.  Customers come back again and again to have this lens glazed into their frames.

If you appreciate the importance of having the most natural and comfortable vision possible from a pair of glasses that you can use in all situations, you will love the Omni-Vision HD.

Main Benefits

  • Our Best high-end Varifocal.
  • Half the price of High Street equivalents for this level of design.
  • Cutting edge Freeform design.
  • Much less “Swim & Sway” than with lower-end varifocals.
  • Much less distortion, especially in the peripheral edges of the lens.
  • Easier side-to-side head movement.
  • Larger distance AND reading zones, much wider intermediate zone.
  • Optimised zone for Digital devices like PC’s, Laptops, Smart-Phones & Tablets.
  • Natural blend across all focal points providing greater comfort.
  • Fast adaptation for previous single vision or bifocal wearers.
  • 100% no quibble satisfaction guarantee, if you’re not happy with them we will either swap them or offer you a refund.

Digital & Lifestyle

Glasses wearers are living in a modern digital world and Lensology provides a range of lenses that help our eyes adapt to it. The vast majority of us will spend much of our days and evenings using various digital devices for business and pleasure, but this can come at a cost to the health of our eyes and our general wellbeing. Sore, tired eyes along with neck and back pain can all be linked to inadequate eyewear. In many cases these symptoms can be greatly improved by choosing the correct type of lens. Take a look at our range of Digital & Lifestyle Lenses to see how we can help you.

Bifocal Lenses

Bifocals have two points of vision within the lens. The top part of the lens helps with everyday and distance vision, and the segment in the lower half is used for reading. The most popular bifocal is known as a D28 which means that the reading segment is in the shape of a D and its 28mm wide. We can also supply other bifocal shapes and sizes to match what you already have in your frame. Our bifocals can be clear, tinted, transitions, or polarised lenses.  In terms of thickness, there are options from the Standard 1.5 index, through to our Thinnest 1.74 index.
