Things To Consider When Buying New Glasses Frames
Choosing a pair of specs can be a big deal! It’s also a big investment, one you want to get right the first time. You don’t want to be stuck wearing frames you don’t like because you feel like you have no other choice. When picking your new glasses frames, follow our guide to narrow down your selection.
What are you wearing them for?
Whether you need help sharpening your vision and improving your eye health, or they’re purely fashion accessories, why you’re wearing glasses is a big factor. If you only wear glasses for an occasion, you can get away with aesthetics over function. However, for those with optical prescriptions or looking to protect their eyes from UV rays (which we all should be doing!), considerations such as cost, comfort, and durability will have an influence.
Your style
Eyewear is a fun way to showcase your personality. Whether you require prescription glasses or not, there is a pair of frames for everyone! From classic Aviators or Oval designs to sleek, narrow rectangular frames with tinted lenses, you need to find a style that matches your persona.
With opticians, you might be limited with the brands and styles available to you. Whereas ordering your glasses frames online, you have a huge range of shapes and colours to choose from. If you’ve already found your dream frames, with Lensology, you can customise the lenses to add tints, gradients and mirror effects to really put your stamp on them.
Your face shape
Some glasses frames naturally look better on different face shapes, but they can also sit better on different faces too. For example, oval faces have more space for big, dramatic frames as they don’t hide their features. Whereas big frames on a small, heart-shaped face may be uncomfortable as the edges of the frame may hit your cheeks or forehead.
If you already know which frames best match your face shape, you can save yourself a visit to the opticians. Instead, head to our frame finder and select the style you love. You can then go one step further and customise the lens by adding a prescription, blue light protection, or an anti-glare coating.
Your lifestyle
Are you seeking sunnies for a summer holiday or sunglasses you can wear all year round? Perhaps you only require reading glasses, or sharper vision when driving but you want your driving glasses to protect your eyes from the sun, too. With so many different combinations of lenses, you need to figure out which is the most adaptable and beneficial for work, life, and hobbies.
Transition® lenses offer one lens that adapts to protect your eyes in various environments, while polarised lenses block any blinding glare when out and about. You can also consider digital lenses to block harmful blue light or simply go for an iconic designer brand and tinted lens for a bold fashion statement.
Your budget
At Lensology, our mission is to make great eyewear affordable. Whether you need prescription or non-prescription lenses, sunglasses, varifocals or computer glasses, there’s always an affordable solution.
To invest more in the lens type, the best option is to reglaze your current frames with an upgraded lens. Not only does this provide a more eco-friendly solution, but it’s also kinder to your bank balance. Use our free postal service to send us your glasses frames, and we’ll reglaze and fit any lens you need into your existing frames. And with our amazing deals, we’re often a lot cheaper than high street prices!
The type of lenses you need
Certain types of frames are better suited to different prescriptions and lens thicknesses. If you have a higher or more complicated prescription, you may require a higher index lens that fits better in full-rimmed frames. Whereas fashion lenses or low single-vision prescriptions require a lower index lens that a smaller, rimless frame could easily hold. Of course, if you have a particular style of frame in mind, we can offer different options of lens thickness — reglazing lenses to fit your frame rather than the other way around.
Your prescription
Single vision prescriptions for short or long-sightedness tend to fit most glasses frames shapes and sizes. They’re often only worn for one purpose: to read or view objects close up, or for driving and improving our distant vision. But what if you require two or more prescription lenses?
You could opt for multiple pairs of glasses frames for different visual requirements. But this can become expensive, not to mention confusing, when constantly switching between specs. At this point, you could consider bifocal or varifocal lenses, which combine two or three prescriptions into one lens and, therefore, one pair of frames. This will save you money and convenience when it comes to your frames.
